Meet 76-year-old Harjinder Singh, who has been helping people who meet with accidents on the streets of Delhi for the past 41 years.
Meet 76-year-old Harjinder Singh, who has been helping people who meet with accidents on the streets of Delhi for the past 41 years.
He helps road
accident victims by giving them a free ride to the nearest hospital in his auto
ambulance.
Mr. singh who has
been driving an auto since 1964 always keep a first aid kit with him in the
auto so that he can give a emergency first aid in a worst situation.
While talking to
Mr.singh he said that-
Once a man asked
me if the bandage in your first aid kit falls short in the case of someone
heavily injured, what would you do ?
In reply to this
Mr. singh said
If the bandage
falls short, then there is no problem, I will take out my turbine and tie it in
the wound.
He further added-
whenever I see anyone injured on the road i quickly rush to them and see if he
is in need of urgent help, instead of like other people who hesitate to help
and start clicking pictures rather than helping.
“All the people
whom I have helped till date are alive and I have a family-like relationship
with them”
In his 55 years of service Mr. singh has never been
fined by the traffic police, and as well he is recognized by the delhi traffic
police for his social service.
He was made
traffic police warden and has multiple certificate of appreciation by the delhi
police.
Mr. singh at the
age of 76, still believes not to beg in front of his children and continue to
run his livelihood by running the auto rickshaw.
He says the spirit
of helping people comes from his father and as well as the organization ‘Bhai
Kanhaiya Brigade’ which he is working for past several years.
In addition to
this free service Mr. singh also distributes free sugar medicines to diabetic
patients.
He contributes 10%
of his monthly income for buying medicines for the patients and distributing it
free.
He has several
callers from delhi who rings him up and asks for the medicines, Mr. singh notes
down the address and number and delivers the medicine to the door step whenever
he has a ride drop in that area.
Harjinder singh
has been covered by almost all Indian media, as well as he is covered by some
international papers like- The Guardian, New York Times, BBC, Gulf news etc.
Mr. singh also
encourages other auto rickshaw drivers for helping the injured and offering a
free ride to the hospital.
Mr singh’s message
to the world is- “नर सेवा ही नारायण सेवा हैं , और इस सेवा को में प्राथमिकता देता हु”
